Delta des Refuses
Visit www.deltadesrefuses.com for more information.
The Delta des Refuses Exhibition is an annual exhibition organized by Rachel Trusty. The Refuses acts as a counter show to the Arkansas Arts Center's Delta Exhibition by accepting work from artists who were rejected from the Delta. Each Delta des Refuses is year-specific to the Delta exhibition so visitors to both shows can get a great aesthetic taste of what was "in" and what was "out" as two separate interesting bodies of work. The last Refuses was held in 2016 and planning for 2018 is in the works.
The Refuses was created in the spirit of the original Paris Salon des Refuses in which artists who were refused from the Paris Academy Salon created their own series of shows. Refused shows or counter shows offer a critique of the Juried system and the role of curatorial authorship by giving the viewer a behind-the-scenes look at the works not accepted.
Women's Fiber Art Exhibitions
Trusty has curated two different Fiber Exhibitions that include women from Arkansas. The first exhibition, "Form in Fiber" was held in the spring of 2016 at the Argenta Branch of the William F. Laman Library in North Little Rock. It included the work of nine Arkansas women.
The second fiber exhibition "All Women Fiber Arts Exhibition" was held in the fall of 2017 at the main branch of the Laman Library. This exhibition included 16 women, 8 of whom participated in the first exhibition.
As a fiber artist herself, Trusty pushes to promote the art form. She is most interested in it's historical tie to women through traditional women's handicraft and quilting and the media's later use by Feminists to subvert old traditions and build a new feminine aesthetic.
Arkansas Art Teacher's Exhibition
In 2015 and 2016 Trusty coordinated the Arkansas Art Teacher Exhibitions. Both shows were held at the Argenta Branch of the William F. Laman library in Downtown North Little Rock.
The AR Art Teacher Exhibitions give Arkansas Art Teachers an opportunity to show their own personal work. Many art teachers are working artists too and this important aspect is often overlooked. The AR Art Teacher Exhibitions were coordinated with the AR Art Education Conference that is held at the Wyndam Hotel and Conference center also in North Little Rock.
