Drawing I Student Example 4
Drawing I Student Example 4

These Drawing I examples show students progress after the first 8 weeks of Drawing I. During this time we focused on proportion and shading in charcoal.

Student 4 was very successful in her first drawings to accurately capture the proportions of objects while using line quality.

After shading was incorporated, she tended to rush her early drawings and lose all accurate proportions.

Student 4 was first challenged with assignments where she had to draw more complex contours. She was encouraged to take breaks between drawing and shading. She was encouraged to take more time in her beginning drawing.

Student 4 found success through not rushing the foundation of her drawing. She was most successful shading with vine charcoal first and adding compressed at the end.
