Drawing I Student Example 3
Drawing I Student Example 3

These Drawing I examples show students progress after the first 8 weeks of Drawing I. During this time we focused on proportion and shading in charcoal.

Student 3 was very strong in her initial drawings in capturing the proportions of objects. She drew with delicate line quality early in ear drawings, but often became too heavy handed, leaving her objects with thick outlines. These outlines flattened her drawings.

Student 3 struggled in shading objects, also shading them too severely.

Student 3 was given assignments which focused on drawing and shading delicately to leave subtle details. Student 3 was also given instruction on blocking in shadows.

Student 3 found success in only using vine charcoal to shade. Compressed charcoal became too severe with her heavy-handed approach.
